Hillsborough County Assists Small Businesses with Preparation
May 25th – 31st is National Hurricane Preparedness Week.
Did you know that an estimated 40% of small businesses that close because of a disaster never reopen? You’ve invested a lot of time and resources into making your business a success, Prepare—Have a Plan; it will greatly increase your chances for survival.
During National Hurricane Preparedness Week and throughout the entire hurricane season, Hillsborough County Economic Development Department is educating business owners about the disaster preparedness tools and resources that are available to them. This includes the County’s Business Emergency Response Team (BERT) bags, which include an important checklist of documents and items that businesses can “grab and go” in case of emergency.
“Businesses that are prepared can help minimize the impact a disaster may have on a their operations and the community,” said Hillsborough County, Economic Development Director Lindsey Kimball. “The faster we can get our local businesses back-on-track, the faster we can restart our economic engine.”
The Florida Small Business Development Center at Hillsborough County conducts several Business Protection 101 Workshops to inform business owners of the tools and resources available to better prepare for a disaster.
The next workshop is scheduled June 23, 2014, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Small Business Information Center Office, 7402 N. 56th Street, Tampa. Additionally, Business Consultants are available to meet with companies one-on-one at one of the SBDC at Hillsborough County Offices or at their place of business.
