Amanda and Laura caught up with Roaya on a virtual call. Roaya had just wrapped important lobbying in Tallahassee; fingers crossed the legislature will maintain much needed support. Beyond funding, the focus is to change mindset…Stronger Than Stigma is one of their signature events. We were fascinated to learn Gracepoint was a brainchild of a Junior League member over 70 years ago…and flash forward, Roaya has been recently appointed CEO, first woman in the position since the inception of the organization!
- Tell us, why LTA?
Guy King III was the Board Chair of Gracepoint for years and he was heavily involved with the Tampa Bay Chamber. He suggested I apply because it was a great opportunity to network and grow as a business professional. He was right.
- For you, what separates LTA from other business leadership programs?
LTA is so well established in this community and based on that history, the program is able to provide such a rich experience. To witness a “behind the scenes” day of programs and businesses that keep Tampa growing was incredible. One of my favorites was military day. I learned so much about what it means to have MacDill AFB here.
- Describe a time when the LTA experience impacted your life or career?
It’s difficult to pin down a specific time because the experience continues to be beneficial but the most memorable was the time I called on a fellow graduate who worked in healthcare. She was able to help me navigate barriers in a mutual patient referral process. That was very satisfying.
- What is a LTA benefit you wish everyone knew about?
It’s an excellent ice breaker that allows graduates to build relationships, both personal and professional. What could be better than that?
- Describe how the leadership journey will continue to shape you?
One thing I’ve realized is that the day you are no longer open to self-reflection is the day that you should hang up your cleats. For me, leadership is about evolving and inspiring others. It’s a journey that I hope to continue.
