Axios Reporter Selene San Felice interviewed local leaders about the 21% of employees in the Tampa – St. Pete – Clearwater region working from home. The new Census figures released last week revealed remote working in the Tampa Bay region exceeds the national average. Tampa Bay Chamber President/CEO Bob Rohrlack was among the subject experts interviewed. Speaking from the vantage point of 1,400 member companies, Rohrlack pointed to a factor that’s pervasive and he hears a lot about from business owners, but one that doesn't always make it in the news headlines. That pervasive factor fueling the continued wave of remote working, he said, is the lack of public transportation in the Tampa Bay region. “People just aren’t willing to sit in traffic,” he said.
