Fox 13 Tampa Bay did a follow up to their May 2023 interview showcasing Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, Inc. 's launch of 3DE high schools in the Tampa Bay region. The May 31, 2024 live television segment featured Chamberlain High School Graduate Queen Foster, Class of 2024. Chamberlain is one of only 11 public high schools in the region to have the innovative 3DE program. Olivier Millour, spokesperson for Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay and Vice Chair of our Chamber's Workforce Development Council, explained how it works. This summer, the nationwide program in select cities and states saw the inaugural groups of students complete the program, which brings together local businesses, government and organizations with students. These high school seniors serve as consultants, helping to address real world challenges and/or projects being worked on by their partner business.
During the Fox 13 interview, Queen explained how she and 4 colleagues worked on a project for the City of Tampa and even presented their findings to Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. The teens first researched apprenticeship programs and then suggested how city government can best market these opportunities to young adults. The apprenticeships ranged from plumbing, healthcare, electrical work and hospitality, just to name a few.
