“We want to educate businesses about the opportunities that are available,” said Jason Bortz, President and CEO of government contracting firm Select GCR, “and help them understand the steps that can be taken to ultimately increase revenue through government opportunities.” A marketing and business development firm, Select GCR helps small businesses position themselves to attain contracts with the U.S. government on the city, county, state and federal levels.

They have a special emphasis on helping woman, veteran, and minority owned businesses, many of which don’t know that the government sets aside a percentage of contracts to award to these specific groups. Recently, they helped a client in Mississippi, MS Fruit and Vegetable LLC, obtain millions in contracts selling fruit to schools and prisons associated with the government. Whatever their client’s specialty, this Chamber Member makes the complex simple – living up to its brand of Government Contracting. Simplified.

The company began in 2012 solely focused on helping businesses get registered with System for Award Management, also known as SAM. However, they soon realized that registration was only the first step to success in the world of government contracting. “80 to 85% of the businesses that are registered with SAM are not attaining contracts,” Bortz said. “They need to be educated in where to go and what to look for.” Realizing this, Select GCR shifted their business model to not only helping businesses get registered, but also educating them on how to find the contracts with minimal or no competition, how to connect with the people in charge of awarding contracts, and to optimize their SAM profile. “It has really become a more personal approach, and more of a handholding and one on one communication and training with our clients,” Bortz said.

One of the tools they utilize to help clients succeed is Select GCR Pro, their aggregate software program. This program allows their government procurement advisors to set up query searches that comb through the government’s public records based on keywords, geographic area, socioeconomic certifications, and other specifications to create a personalized profile showing the client all the contracts, past, present and future that deal with their specific field in their geographic area. “It cuts through all of the research and the wondering and gets them straight to the point of who they should be contacting, what jobs they should be going after,” Bortz said.

Education is an important area of strategic focus for the company, not only for SAM registered businesses who need to know what the next steps are, but also for the 30+ million businesses who have not registered with SAM, unaware of the opportunities available in government contracts. A member of the Tampa Bay Chamber since 2023, Select GCR has been active in networking and attending events, sharing with other members in a variety of industries where the possibilities are in the field of government contracting. “We’ve made a lot of friends,” Bortz said. “We’ve brought in a lot of clients locally from our relationships with the Chamber.”
