For 33 years, the historic Tampa Theatre has kept bringing favorite films back to the big screen on Sundays. Don't miss the Summer Classics movie series presented by Bank of America. Both Chamber Members have been partnering on the annual series since 2015. The time-honored collection also has the distinction of each title being included in the National Film Registry as “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films”. Additional support is provided by WEDU PBS, which is also a Chamber Member company. Sunday, July 21, it's the 1939 original of The Wizard of Oz. August 18th, it's the 1942 Casablanca.
Built in 1926, the Tampa Theatre is one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces. Theatre guests sit under a delicately painted night sky, complete with twinkling stars. Its Mediterranean courtyard includes old-world statues and gargoyles. When the Tampa Theatre opened, movie goers enjoyed the films for only 25 cents! Today, the Theatre is managed by the not-for-profit Tampa Theatre Inc. As one of the most heavily utilized venues of its kind in the United States, Tampa Theatre’s single auditorium hosts more than 700 events each year.
