Update on lawsuit between Hillsborough County Commission and Hillsborough County Public Schools - Based on a judge's decision Monday, Hillsborough County School Board’s referendum on property taxes will now appear on the November ballot. The decision comes after months of legal debate and court appeals. School Superintendent Van Ayres and educators will now have the opportunity to ask voters if they will pay more in property taxes to help schools meet the needs of the rapidly growing school system.

If approved by voters, the school district says the bulk of the funds from that tax will go toward boosting the salaries of teachers and school support staff.
