As representatives of the business community, we stand united in our support for the renewal of the Community Investment Tax (CIT). This vital funding mechanism has been instrumental in fostering economic growth, enhancing public services, and improving quality of life for all residents in our region. The renewal of this half-percent sales tax is not just a financial necessity; it is a strategic investment in our community’s future.

Over the last 28 years, the CIT has provided critical funding for infrastructure projects, public safety enhancements, and educational initiatives. These investments have created jobs, stimulated economic development, and attracted new businesses to our area. A thriving business environment relies on a high quality of life for its residents underscoring the vital need for renewing this as Hillsborough County’s population is expected to reach over two million people by 2050.

The renewal of the Community Investment Tax will provide essential funding for projects that address critical needs throughout Hillsborough County, including:

  • Transportation infrastructure which is essential to keep pace with Hillsborough County’s rapid population growth.
  • Public safety projects that will increase our fire rescue, law enforcement, and courts public safety capacity that in turn improve responsiveness and enhance services for our community.
  • Stormwater infrastructure improvements that are essential to the long-term health and safety of our communities while avoiding failures and costly repairs of aging systems.

As the voice of the business community, we urge Hillsborough County residents to vote yes to renew the Community Investment Tax (CIT). Continued investment in public safety, transportation, and infrastructure means an investment in our community’s future. Together, we can ensure a bright future for all residents by renewing the Community Investment Tax.
