Tampa Bay Chamber Statement on the Renewal of the Community Investment Tax (CIT) and Hillsborough County Public School (HCPS) Millage Referenda
Last night, Hillsborough County residents voted in support of the renewal of the Community Investment Tax (CIT) and the Hillsborough County Public Schools Millage Referenda. The passage of these two critical community investments is a testament to what can be achieved when we come together in support of a vision for a stronger, more prosperous future in Hillsborough County. We are confident that these investments will create lasting value, not just for businesses, but for families and future generations.
“As business leaders, we recognize the importance of fostering an environment where communities can flourish, and we are excited by the positive impact the CIT renewal will have on enhancing quality of life, strengthening our infrastructure, and investing in our students. We look forward to continuing to partner with government leaders and community stakeholders in ensuring these investments create lasting, equitable benefits for all,” said Tampa Bay Chamber Board of Directors Chair Brian Adcock.
We recognize and understand that current economic challenges and inflationary pressures are impacting many businesses and families; despite this, Hillsborough County residents have demonstrated their support of the long-term prosperity of our community by making thoughtful investments in key areas like education, infrastructure, and transportation. We applaud our community for their commitment to building a stronger, more resilient future for all.
“We recognize that strong, vibrant schools are the foundation of a successful economy. The passage of the HCPS Millage Referendum is a testament to our community’s belief that by investing in education, we are investing in our future workforce, helping to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving global economy,” said Dr. Bob Rohrlack, President and CEO at the Tampa Bay Chamber.
“We are deeply thankful to the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce and every community member who supported the passage of the millage referendum. Your commitment shows that you believe, as we do, in the power and promise of public education. Together, we are investing in the success of our students and teachers, ensuring that our schools remain strong, vibrant centers of learning and growth for all," said Van Ayres, Superintendent Hillsborough County Public Schools.
