This is a throwback from Laura. Laura attempted to connect with Eric last November but Hurricane Milton had other plans! Finally, they both had a chance to catch up over coffee to continue the conversation!

Tell us, why LTA?
I participated in Leadership Tampa to deepen my understanding of our community and enhance my leadership skills. Graduating in 2005, the best class ever, I valued the program's immersive approach, from educational sessions and tours to behind-the-scenes experiences like Partner with a Hero and teacher shadowing. Leadership Tampa’s rich legacy and focus on diverse community facets provided invaluable insights and allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the Tampa Bay region. Additionally, the program helped me forge lifelong friendships with fellow participants, making the experience even more rewarding. It was truly a transformative journey that enabled me to both GIVE back and GROW as a leader.

What separates LTA from other business leadership programs?
For me, what sets Leadership Tampa (LTA) apart from other business leadership programs is its deep-rooted connection to the local community and its comprehensive, hands-on approach. Unlike many programs that focus solely on business theory or executive skills, LTA provides an immersive experience that integrates educational sessions, tours, and direct interactions with community leaders across diverse sectors such as first responders, education, and the arts.

The programs offer a rare and intimate understanding of the community's inner workings. This experiential learning, combined with a focus on giving back and making a tangible impact, distinguishes LTA from other programs. Furthermore, the strong emphasis on building lifelong relationships with fellow participants adds a valuable personal dimension that enhances both professional growth and community engagement.

Describe a time when the LTA experience impacted your life or career?
One impactful moment from the Leadership Tampa (LTA) program was our visit to Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis, Florida—a magical place for children with serious medical illnesses. The camp’s mission, founded by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, deeply resonated with me. Witnessing the transformative experiences and the dedication of the camp’s staff and supporters left a lasting impression.

Inspired by this visit, I felt compelled to contribute further. About six months later, I collaborated with Camp Boggy Creek to produce four statewide TV commercials aimed at raising funds for their programs. This initial foray into not-for-profit volunteerism led to numerous other rewarding opportunities to give back to the community. The LTA experience not only broadened my understanding of community needs but also ignited a lasting commitment to volunteerism and service.

What is a LTA benefit you wish everyone knew about?
One LTA benefit I wish everyone knew about is the incredible opportunity to build a network of around 60 new friends who become lifelong connections. These relationships are not just valuable for personal and professional growth but also for creating a strong support system within the community.

Additionally, LTA provides invaluable education on innovative ways to contribute through volunteerism and giving back. This unique combination of forming meaningful connections and learning effective ways to impact the community enriches both personal and career journeys in ways that extend far beyond the program itself.

Describe how the leadership journey will continue to shape you?
The leadership journey through LTA will continue to shape me by reinforcing the values of community engagement and collaborative leadership. As a former United States Marine, I found that the program echoed my military experience, emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and service. It was also reminiscent of what I learned in military academy at a young age, prior to college and the Marine Corps, where the foundations of leadership and commitment were first instilled in me.

Just as those experiences shaped me into a more effective leader, LTA further honed these qualities, deepening my commitment to making a positive impact. The insights and experiences gained—such as building lifelong connections and understanding diverse community needs—have profoundly influenced my approach to leadership. The program’s focus on giving back and finding innovative ways to support others will guide my continued growth, while the network of friends and mentors from LTA will serve as a source of inspiration and support. Overall, LTA has made me more of what I already am—dedicated to serving and leading with purpose in my community.

What did you do on summer vacation?

This summer, my son Lacher and I shared an unforgettable adventure with South Tampa's Troop 53 at Guajataka Scout Reservation in Puerto Rico. We spent our days climbing, rappelling, swimming, and cooking over open flames—each moment full of challenge and connection.

A highlight was hiking through El Yunque’s rainforest to Mt. Britton Tower, a 1930s stone lookout perched at 3,087 feet, offering breathtaking views of the island’s coast and cloud forest. We also cooled off at Gozalandia Waterfalls, where we leapt from boulders, swung on ropes, and swam in jungle pools teeming with tiny fish.

At night, we fell asleep to the soothing calls of coquí frogs—no mosquitoes, no stress—just the peaceful rhythm of the rainforest.

It was a week of adventure, growth, and memories we’ll carry for a lifetime.

Latest movie, book, streaming series or a combination?

After owning a film production company for over 25 years, it’s refreshing to unwind and watch a cool series like The Umbrella Academy where I don’t have to write, produce, edit, or analyze. Instead, I can simply get lost in its unique blend of superhero drama and dark humor, enjoying the intriguing plot twists and quirky characters without any of the behind-the-scenes work.

Favorite spot to meet friends/colleagues for coffee, lunch or happy hour-----

I still love the old school approach of Malios in downtown Tampa’s beer can building.

For staycation in Tampa Bay, you like to……

Sheraton Sand Key Resort! Love the 13-acre private beach, the long tenured staff, Florida fresh seafood, and the feeling of being home away from home.

When out-of-town guests are visiting, you plan….

Tour The Tampa Theatre, walk historic Ybor City, eat a Cuban sandwich, smoke a cigar, and walk on Bayshore!

Any hidden treasures/recent discoveries you’d like to share?!

Having traveled all over Asia and specifically Thailand and Bhutan, we really enjoy going to Wat Mongkolratanaram Temple on Sundays for their weekly charity market with vendors selling food like empanadas, crab rangoon and pork noodle soup, as well as fresh Thai fruits and vegetables.

Any upcoming initiatives/passion projects we need to know about?

First and foremost, celebrating 25 years in business at HCP Associates with Sean Coniglio (LT’06). Sean is a great friend and business partner, and I am very lucky and blessed to have this guy in my life.

I am an artist at heart and typically paint at least one piece a month. My current series just launched here.

This past year, I produced three independent films and the most recent out of London (Under the Blue) won its category at Cannes Film Festival.
