Advisors and Subject Matter Experts report to the respective Tampa Bay Business Accelerator Program Chair.

Advisor

Works one-on-one with program participant(s) by providing support, guidance and business recommendations. Hosts regular advising session with program participant, assesses business development needs, and facilitates program accountability and business growth.

Time Commitment

8 to 10 hours per month; 2-year commitment

Selection Process

The recruitment and selection process takes place each year, June – September. The process includes:

  • Application and Resume Submittal
  • Volunteer Orientation

Responsibilities

  • Serves on Leadership Council and attends bi-monthly meetings
  • Assists Small Business with business assessment
  • Assists Small Businesses with developing and executing strategic goals, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), etc. by facilitating accelerated growth plan development
  • Hosts monthly advising sessions with Small Business and records progress
  • Assesses Small Business development needs and make practical recommendations
  • Monitors Small Business progress until it has reached its goals
  • Attends various events with MBE, i.e. Kick-Off event, Cohort Kick Off, exposure and networking events, peer-to-peer review sessions, pitch sessions, graduation, etc.
  • Evaluates the Return on Investment (ROI) of the TBBA
  • Provides ongoing program recommendations to fulfill the mission and objectives of the TBBA
  • Assists with program development by recruiting TBBA participants, subject-matter experts, and community partners

Qualifications

  • Must be a Tampa Bay Chamber member
  • Experience in teaching and/or advising Small Businesses
  • A Community leader with the ability to influence decision making
  • Advocate for Small Businesses in Tampa and Hillsborough County
  • Expansive knowledge of challenges Small Businesses experience and proven growth strategies
  • Keen awareness and sensitivity of cultural differences among diverse minority populations

Subject Matter Expert

Facilitates program participant’s professional and business development session(s), by sharing best practices relative to the curriculum topic, providing practical tools for successful implementation, and connecting program participants to additional resources as deemed necessary. Creates executive cohort session content including books, manuals, handouts, etc.

Time Commitment

10 hours per year; 1-year commitment

Selection Process

The recruitment and selection process takes place each year, June – September. The process includes:

  • Volunteer Interest Form
  • Volunteer Orientation

Responsibilities

  • Creates and delivers executive cohort session content (i.e., books, manuals, documentation, etc.)
  • Provides practical, results-driven solutions that align with course content
  • Collaborates with Program Chair and Tampa Bay Chamber staff to make recommendations on future executive cohort sessions
  • Attends cohort graduation

Qualifications

  • Must be a Tampa Bay Chamber member
  • Expansive knowledge in desired training subject
  • Expansive knowledge of challenges Small Businesses experience and proven growth strategies
  • Keen awareness and sensitivity of cultural differences among diverse minority populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences; public speaking skills
