Your Half-Penny Sales Tax at Work: The Community Investment Tax (CIT) is a half-cent sales tax that was approved by Hillsborough County voters in September 1996 for a period of 30 years. It expires November 30, 2026. On the November 5, 2024 ballot voters in Hillsborough County will be asked whether to renew CIT for another 15 years.

True to its name, the CIT sales tax funds capital improvement projects and capital equipment in Hillsborough County and the cities of Plant City, Tampa, and Temple Terrace. Capital improvement projects include construction as well as renovation, replacement, and expansion projects of existing facilities or county assets, often referred to as infrastructure.

Our Chamber’s Public Policy and Advocacy efforts are designed to serve as a resource for voters in advance of election day. This webpage provides information on the economic impact of CIT funds to date and how neighborhoods across four districts have benefited from CIT. Each district corresponds to areas represented in the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners. Here you will also find information on much needed infrastructure projects already approved and awaiting CIT funding, if voters approve CIT renewal.
