Tampa Bay Chamber Involvement

  • Board of Directors – Executive Committee At-Large

With more than 44 years of human resources and development experience, Gary Vien is the chief administrative officer of Suncoast Credit Union. Vien has a drive for cooperative success, is an eternal optimist and believes there is good in everyone and in all things.

When he began his career with Six Flags Corporation in 1973, Vien absorbed everything he could about human resources and the role it plays in leading well-run organizations. Vien worked in a variety of leadership roles across the country within Six Flags Corporation such as human resources manager, director of administration and corporate director of human resources. In 1998, Vien moved to Tampa, Florida and served as the vice president of human resources and training at SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment at Busch Gardens.

Vien joined Suncoast Credit Union in 2011 as a senior vice president of human resources and development, and now serves as the organization’s chief administrative officer.

Beyond his human resources duties, Vien is responsible for overseeing the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation, marketing and facilities and is a Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE). Vien is passionate about education and developing members of the community and does so by holding leadership positions as immediate past board chair of the Hillsborough Community College Foundation, Credit Union Legislative Action Committee Trustee for the state of Florida as well as serving on its executive committee and the Finance chair of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Vien served as board chair of the Six Flags Employees Federal Credit Union in California and as the vice chair of the CUNA Creating Awareness Committee.

A University of Missouri alum, Vien earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and continued his education by earning a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix in Los Angeles.

When Vien isn’t helping credit union members save more for life, he can be found figuring out a way to travel to the 3 states he hasn’t been to, speaking to young professionals about his recently published book – ‘Lead or Get Out of the Way’, locating the perfect bacon cheese burger and learning to fly fish, which he has yet to do!
