
Lisa Thelwell

Lisa Thelwell is passionate about seeking the truth, serving as a voice for victims, and ensuring that justice prevails. As an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida in the Tampa Division, Lisa is assigned to the Special Victims Section, where she primarily prosecutes human trafficking and child exploitation offenses, and currently serves as the district’s Human Trafficking Coordinator.
Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Lisa served as an Assistant State Attorney at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office for nearly four years, where she prosecuted in the felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile divisions. She has conducted over 40 jury trials and numerous bench trials in state and federal court.
Lisa has received several accolades for her leadership and public service, including being named the 2019 Gang Prosecutor of the Year by the Florida Gang Investigators Association, a 2021 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, and a recipient of the 2022 Special Achievement Award for Public Safety and Awareness by the Tampa Region Financial Crimes and Inspectors General Council.
A proud double Gator, Lisa graduated cum laude from the University of Florida, Frederic G. Levin College of Law, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida, Warrington College of Business, with minors in African American Studies and Leadership. In 2022, UF Law named Lisa Outstanding Young Alumnus of the Year.
Lisa currently serves as the Vice President of the National Association of Black Prosecutors Foundation and is the President of the local Tampa Bay chapter.
Lisa is a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and actively participates in her local graduate chapter where she most recently served as Parliamentarian for four years.
