
Mindy Murphy
The Spring of Tampa Bay
A University of Virginia graduate, Mindy has served as President & CEO of The Spring of Tampa Bay since 2012. She has chaired the Hillsborough County Domestic Violence Task Force and serves on the DV Fatality Review Team, the Child Abuse Death Review Team, and the Hillsborough County Behavioral Health Task Force. She has been heavily involved in statewide grassroots efforts, serving as a lead advocate in proposing new legislation to improve our statewide response to domestic violence. She and her team contract with the State of Florida to oversee legal programs housed at 30 of the state’s certified domestic violence centers, giving her agency connections throughout Florida.
She currently serves on the boards of directors of the Tampa/Hillsborough Homeless Initiative and the Nonprofit Leadership Center; on Hillsborough County’s Commission on the Status of Women; as an Advisory Board member at The Harrell Center for the Study of Family Violence at USF; as a USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy member, Athena Society member, and International Women’s Forum member; and in numerous other capacities to improve the welfare of women and children.
Since moving to Tampa in 1990, she has served on the boards of directors of Helping Hand Day Nursery, Child Abuse Council, Cornerstone Kids, The Learning Centers, and Trinity School for Children. She also served on the board of Hillsborough Kids, including several years as board chair, traveling throughout the state advocating for Florida’s foster children. She is a past president of the Junior League of Tampa and has led events for Zoo Tampa and Moffitt. She was a founding member of UVA’s national Young Alumni Council and has co-chaired five of her UVA Class Reunions. Earlier in her career, she served as Director of Development for the Child Abuse Council.
In 2015, she was one of 12 statewide recipients of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women’s Florida Achievement Award. In 2019 she was named Northwest Hillsborough Citizen of the Year by the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce. In 2023 she was a finalist for the inaugural Tampa Bay Business & Wealth Business Woman of the Year and a Telly Awards Silver Winner for her interview on TBAE’s Connecting With Kim.
She has presented at annual meetings of the National Commission on the Status of Women, the Florida Commission on the Status of Women, and Legal Services Corporation, the federal agency established by the U.S. Congress to fund and monitor free civil legal aid. She has been interviewed over 100 times by the Tampa Bay Times, New York Times, and numerous television/radio stations, on issues affecting survivors of domestic violence and their children.
In her personal life, she enjoys spending time with friends and family. If she weren't at The Spring, her other dream job would be camp director at Camp Lake Hubert for Girls in Minnesota, where she spent many happy summers.
